A Covid-19 Alert...
COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Its spread has reached South Africa and will have a devastating effect on our country unless we act. South Africa will enter into lockdown on 26 March 2020 in an attempt to curb the spread of the pandemic to the most vulnerable in our society. As part of the lockdown, only certain essential services are allowed to operate. Companies are encouraged to continue functioning (through remote working. Importantly, the Occupational Health and Safety Act places a duty on employers to create a safe and healthy working environment.
Basic Guide to Safety Protocols in the Workplace:
1. Brief employees on the virus. 2. Promote hand washing and sanitising. 3. Disinfect surfaces and objects (laptops and cellphones). 4. Allow remote working (if possible). 5. Display posters on how to wash hands correctly. 6. Promote respiratory hygiene (there must be an availability of tissues and closed bins) 7. Regularly brief employees on the virus 8. Provide Personal Protective Equipment (depending on the nature of the job) 9. Do NOT shake hands.
10. Cough and sneeze into your elbow (the virus is spread through droplets)
