What is a mediator?
A mediator is a neutral third party that is appointed to help people resolve a conflict. For example, if a couple wanted to get divorced and would prefer not to incur the cost of lawyers and possibly months of litigation, they would hire a mediator to assist them in their separation. A mediator, unlike a lawyer, does not choose sides or influence the decision of either party. They are simply there to listen and help the parties reach common ground.
What does a mediation process entail?
Here is a simple recipe to help you understand what mediation entails:
An hour or two of your time for a fixed number of sessions.
A spoonful of patience when entering into any conflict situation.
An open mind and will to listen to the other person.
Remember what is important. Mediation helps to preserve relationships.

Affordable: most mediators have a fixed fee for a fixed number of mediation sessions to allow you to plan accordingly.
Time Effective: Unlike litigation, mediation does not go on forever. For example, divorce mediation will run for 2 hours a week for about 4-5 weeks.
Who can use a mediator?
Anyone can make use of a mediator to deal with a conflict. Individuals would use a mediator to resolve a conflict between the two of them.
